“I’m glad he’s okay,” Benford said and poked at his nose. “You and I, and probably Danny and Steve Milbourne as well, need to have a serious discussion about a game plan. We also need to discuss the implications that there’s somebody out there doing this kind of thing to our people on purpose.”

It looked like a nice, upscale hotel room to Brayden. After the unsettling episode with the staff psychologist, Jamie and Brayden were taken to the residential wing of the complex by Peter. Nobody had even asked whether they needed one room or two. Brayden couldn’t decide if his relationship with Jamie was that damn obvious or if this was an eerie side effect of an entire organization staffed by psychics.

“The cafeteria is open until midnight. You’re free to take food, utensils, and whatever you need from there. They open again at six a.m. I live two floors up. If either of you has a problem during the night, just dial the operator. We’ll all get together for breakfast at nine to discuss options. Any questions?” asked Peter.

Brayden glanced back into the room. Jamie had stretched out on the bed. “How long are you keeping him here?”

“At least three or four days, then we’ll reevaluate. He’s probably going to need occupational therapy to work on some of the neurological deficits.”

“Like learning to read again?”

“Yes. Anything else?” Peter asked.

“I don’t think so.”

“I have a parting word of advice. Jamie may be stable at the moment, but he’s also half an inch from coming unglued. He could really benefit from some skin time with you.”
